In-Home Pediatric Feeding Therapy in Knoxville, TN

When bottle-feeding, chewing, swallowing, or advancing textures feels harder than expected, specialized support can help identify what is making meals difficult. Well Said Well Fed provides individualized pediatric feeding evaluations and therapy in families’ homes throughout the Knoxville area.

When Feeding Feels Harder Than Expected

Feeding difficulty is not always simply “picky eating.” Some children have a harder time with the physical skills, coordination, endurance, or safety involved in eating and drinking. A feeding evaluation looks at what may be making meals difficult — it is not a diagnosis made through a website.

  • Difficulty accepting a bottle
  • Coughing, choking, or congestion during or after meals
  • Frequent gagging with foods or textures
  • Holding or pocketing food in the cheeks
  • Swallowing foods without adequately chewing
  • Difficulty progressing beyond purées or dissolvable foods
  • Meals that consistently take an unusually long time
  • Stress or frustration when advancing textures
  • Difficulty coordinating sucking, swallowing, and breathing
  • Feeding concerns associated with prematurity, neurological conditions, developmental differences, or complex medical histories

Feeding Concerns I Evaluate

Breast & bottle-feeding difficulties

Support for latch, bottle acceptance, and the early feeding relationship.

Bottle refusal

Help when a baby resists or struggles with the bottle.

Suck-swallow-breathe coordination

Assessment of how feeding, swallowing, and breathing work together.

Transitioning to solids

Guidance as your child moves from purées toward table foods.

Delayed chewing & oral-motor skills

Building the oral-motor skills that chewing and managing food require.

Difficulty advancing textures

Support when new textures feel overwhelming or unsafe.

Food pocketing

Understanding why food is held in the cheeks and how to help.

Pediatric dysphagia & feeding-safety concerns

Evaluation when there are signs of swallowing difficulty.

Feeding needs with medically complex diagnoses

Individualized support for children with complex medical or developmental histories.

For everyday mealtime worries and starting-solids confidence that do not require clinical intervention, parent coaching through the Well Fed Method may be a better fit — and I can help you tell the difference.

What Happens During a Clinical Feeding Evaluation?

  • Reviewing your child’s medical, developmental, and feeding history
  • Observing feeding with familiar bottles, foods, utensils, and equipment
  • Assessing oral-motor skills and chewing development
  • Observing coordination, efficiency, endurance, and clinical signs of swallowing difficulty
  • Discussing positioning, pacing, flow rate, texture, and mealtime routines
  • Determining appropriate recommendations and next steps
  • Coordinating with your child’s medical team when necessary

A clinical feeding evaluation does not replace an instrumental swallowing assessment when one is medically indicated. When that is the case, I coordinate with your child’s medical team.

Why In-Home Feeding Therapy?

Children eat best in the place they know. Seeing your child at home — with their usual foods, bottles, seating, utensils, caregivers, and routines — shows how feeding really unfolds day to day.

Because I observe feeding in your own kitchen and highchair, recommendations can be built around your family and your routines — not only around what happens in a clinic room. That makes strategies easier to carry into everyday meals.
