Do you provide infant feeding therapy in Knoxville?

Yes. Infant feeding is my specialty. I provide in-home infant feeding and lactation support, plus a Comprehensive Infant Feeding Evaluation, throughout Knoxville, Tennessee and nearby communities. As both a pediatric speech-language pathologist and a Certified Lactation Counselor, I look at the whole feeding picture, from latch and bottle acceptance to how your baby sucks, coordinates, and swallows.

Can you help when a baby refuses a bottle?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Bottle refusal is one of the most common reasons families reach out. There are many possible contributors, from flow rate and positioning to oral-motor coordination, and I help you sort out what is going on for your baby rather than just trying another bottle. Depending on what you are seeing, that might start with lactation and feeding support or with an infant feeding evaluation.

How do I know whether my child needs a feeding evaluation?

Accepted Answer

If feeding stays painful, inefficient, uncoordinated, or stressful despite foundational support, or you notice coughing, clicking, milk leaking, very long feeds, frequent gagging, trouble advancing textures, or a limited range of foods, an evaluation can help identify what is making eating and drinking hard. If you are not sure, reach out and I will help you decide whether an evaluation is the right next step.

Where are in-home visits available?

In-home visits are available throughout Knoxville, Tennessee and surrounding communities within my standard service area. An additional travel fee may apply outside the standard radius. We can confirm availability for your address during your first conversation.

Question 5

Do I need a referral to work with you?

Accepted Answer

No referral is required to schedule a consultation, evaluation, or coaching. Because I am a private-pay, out-of-network practice, you can reach out directly. When it is helpful, I coordinate with your child's pediatrician or other providers with your consent.

Question 6

Do you offer virtual feeding support, and can it be provided outside Tennessee?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with an important distinction. Educational parent coaching through the Well Fed Method is available virtually to families anywhere in the country. Licensed clinical feeding and speech teletherapy is available only where I am licensed, currently Tennessee, Virginia, and Maryland. If you are outside those states, coaching and education are still available; clinical therapy is not.

Can you provide a superbill?

Yes. Superbills are available upon request for eligible clinical evaluation and therapy services, which you can submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement is determined by your plan and is not guaranteed. Parent coaching and education are not eligible for superbills.

Is Well Said Well Fed private pay?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Well Said Well Fed is a private-pay practice. Services are paid at the time of service, and you always know the cost of an evaluation or package in advance.

Do you accept insurance?

Accepted Answer

I am an out-of-network, private-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. If you have out-of-network benefits, a superbill may help you seek possible reimbursement, but any reimbursement is handled between you and your insurer.

Are superbills available?

Accepted Answer

Yes, upon request for eligible clinical evaluation and therapy services. A superbill is an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurer to seek possible out-of-network reimbursement. Parent coaching and education (including the Well Fed Method) are not clinical services and are not eligible for superbills.

Is reimbursement guaranteed?

No. Whether any amount is reimbursed, and how much, is determined entirely by your individual insurance plan and is not guaranteed. I recommend calling your insurer ahead of time to ask about your out-of-network benefits.

Can I use HSA or FSA funds?

Accepted Answer

Many families are able to use HSA or FSA funds toward eligible clinical evaluation and therapy services, but eligibility depends on your specific plan and account administrator. Parent coaching and education may not qualify. Please confirm with your HSA/FSA administrator before assuming a service is covered.

Do I need to choose a package before an evaluation?

No. Clinical feeding and speech care begins with the appropriate evaluation. You do not need to choose or purchase a therapy package beforehand. Defined lactation and Well Fed Method coaching packages can be selected directly because their structure is set in advance.

When will I learn the recommended treatment frequency?

After your child’s evaluation. I’ll explain the findings, whether therapy is recommended, and the appropriate treatment frequency and options, so any package you choose reflects what your child actually needs.

No. Reaching out simply starts a conversation. I’ll review your concerns and recommend the most appropriate next step. You are never committed to booking, purchasing, or selecting a package by contacting me.

Yes, payment plans are available for packages. If splitting the cost of a package into installments would help your family, let me know when you reach out and we’ll set up a plan that works. Individual evaluations and single sessions are paid at the time of service.

After you reach out, you'll be scheduled for a free 15-minute phone or video consultation. During that call, I'll learn more about your child and your concerns, answer your questions, and talk through which service or program is the best fit. There's no pressure and no commitment required — just clarity.

Yes. The Well Fed Method is available virtually to families nationwide. Breast + Bottle support is available virtually nationwide, with in-home visits available in Knoxville and surrounding areas. Feeding and Speech Therapy are offered in-home throughout Knoxville and surrounding areas, with teletherapy available in Tennessee, Virginia, and Maryland where permitted by licensure.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

Under the federal No Surprises Act, if you are uninsured or paying out of pocket, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of the expected charges for your child's evaluation and therapy. You can request one before scheduling, and I'll also provide one when you schedule care. Because my recommendations depend on what I find during the evaluation, actual services and charges may change. You can read more on my Good Faith Estimate page.

Do I choose a therapy package before the evaluation?

No. Every child begins with the appropriate evaluation, which is scheduled and billed separately. After the evaluation, I'll explain whether therapy is recommended and help you select the most appropriate treatment type and frequency. You do not need to choose or purchase a package beforehand.

Are evaluations included in therapy packages?

Accepted Answer

No. The evaluation is scheduled and billed separately from therapy. Therapy packages include treatment sessions only. Feeding and swallowing evaluation is $400, comprehensive speech-language evaluation is $350, and focused articulation/fluency evaluation is $250.

What if therapy is not recommended?

Accepted Answer

If ongoing therapy is not recommended after the evaluation, you pay only for the completed evaluation and receive the applicable findings and recommendations.

How do therapy packages work?

Accepted Answer

If therapy is recommended, sessions may be used weekly, every other week, or clustered during times when extra support is needed. Together, we'll determine the schedule that best supports your child and family while maintaining meaningful progress. Packages are available in 4-, 8-, and 12-session options, and single sessions are also available. Packages include treatment sessions only.

What is secure messaging between visits?

Families may send questions, updates, photos, or short videos between sessions using a secure messaging platform. Responses are provided during business hours within 1 to 2 business days. Messaging support is designed to help families implement recommendations between visits — not to replace therapy sessions or emergency medical care.

Feeding Therapy or The Well Fed Method: Which is right for my family?

The Well Fed Method is parent coaching and education for families who are overwhelmed by mealtimes, starting solids, food refusal, or stressful mealtime behavior — but whose child does not need clinical intervention. Feeding Therapy is a clinical service for children with oral motor challenges, dysphagia, developmental feeding concerns, medical complexity, or feeding disorders. If you're not sure which fits, start with a free consultation and I'll help you figure it out.

Is The Well Fed Method therapy?

No. The Well Fed Method is parent education, guidance, and coaching. It is not therapy, not a clinical evaluation, and does not constitute treatment. It is available to families anywhere in the country, fully virtually. If concerns arise that warrant clinical feeding therapy, I will discuss referral options with you.

How is infant feeding & lactation organized?

Around one simple pathway: Prepare, Support, Evaluate. Prepare is prenatal education before baby arrives. Support is foundational lactation and feeding guidance during the newborn weeks. Evaluate is a specialized Comprehensive Infant Feeding Evaluation for persistent or clinically concerning breast- or bottle-feeding difficulty. You don't have to figure out which one you need — tell me what's happening and I'll guide you to the right starting point.

Do we need lactation support or a feeding evaluation?

Lactation support (within my Certified Lactation Counselor scope) is the right fit for positioning, breastfeeding, pumping, bottle, and combination-feeding guidance and routines. A Comprehensive Infant Feeding Evaluation is the right fit when feeding stays painful, inefficient, uncoordinated, or stressful despite that support, or when there are concerns about how a baby is sucking, coordinating, and swallowing. What makes an SLP who is also a CLC different for infant feeding?

As both a pediatric speech-language pathologist specializing in feeding and swallowing and a Certified Lactation Counselor, I can support the feeding relationship while also evaluating how a baby is sucking, coordinating, and swallowing. Lactation care addresses positioning, milk, and the feeding relationship; my SLP training adds a functional look at the oral-motor and swallowing skills underneath it. I collaborate with your other providers and don't replace an IBCLC or your medical team.

Are you accepting provider referrals for infant feeding?

Accepted Answer

Yes. I welcome referrals from IBCLCs, pediatricians, pediatric dentists, ENTs, midwives, OTs, and PTs when an infant's breast- or bottle-feeding difficulty continues despite routine lactation strategies, or when there's a concern about feeding function.
